After Central drew with Cheshire Football League Premier Division side Poynton FC on Saturday afternoon, Tomkinson reflects on the encounter and looks ahead to Wednesday's encounter.

After a resounding 6-0 opening pre-season fixture against Whitworth Valley last Saturday, Central faced Poynton on Saturday afternoon and played out an entertaining one-all draw in the scorching heat. A delicate volley cancelled out an Oumar Kande opening goal in the first half from Poynton in the second half.

Looking back on the game, Tomkinson said;

"It was a good test for our lads against decent opposition in Poynton. Obviously, the weather impacted the game, but the lads took on board what we want to achieve this season, which pleased us."

"Facing opposition like Poynton gives us a real taste of the kind of teams we will be facing this season, and that's what pre-season is all about."

Central's fixtures don't stop there as Central hosts Cheshire Division One side Styal FC at Wright Robinson College before welcoming Sale Amateurs to Seashells Trust on Saturday afternoon.

"Styal will be similar friendly to Poynton in many respects being a team that's been together for a long time. This will allow us an opportunity to get some new lads settled in, giving them more game time in the run-up to the start of the season."

"Sale Amateurs will provide a very different test as we haven't faced them before, so we don't know what to expect in that respect. We believe they are relatively young, so they will be right up for it. On a different note, it will be nice to welcome former players Dan Jones, who now manages Sale and Luke Monaghan."

Whatever happens in these pre-season friendlies, Central will be ready for the start of the Manchester League on August 13th.
