Seven days after progressing to the Challenge Cup Final, Central now know their opponents in the form of old foes Chadderton Reserves.
After progressing to the Challenge Cup final, courtesy of a 5-1 victory over Heyside FC last Saturday, Central had to wait to find out their final opponents after the game between Irlam Steel Rangers and Chadderton Reserves was called off due to an unplayable pitch.
After a tight encounter at the Steel Ground, Chadderton Reserves progressed thanks to a victory over Irlam Steel Rangers. This will be the first time Central has faced Chadderton since 13th April 2019.
Chadderton Reserves, who play in the Premier Division of the Manchester League, are no strangers to Central, with the Outcasts facing them no less than six times in the last six years.
After finding out about their cup finalist opposition, Manager Chris Tomkinson was optimistic and excited about the big encounter.
"It's going to be a great game. Lots of history between the two sides from previous years. It's something we are most definitely looking forward to! All games are tough; if you reach a final, you've done well. We're not daft, and we know what we have to do, and it will be a great day for all associated with the club."
Despite all the hype of the final, Tomkinson insists the league is a priority, and lads need to perform in the league games to make the squad in February.
"Lads will know they have to perform between now and the final if they don't, we have a really strong squad, and lads will fill spaces, so it's going to be an interesting few months now, where we have to improve our league form first and foremost which to me is the most important thing."
Aside from the players, Tomkinson highlighted the importance of the final for all people associated with the club.
"It will be a great occasion for all involved with the club. The final brings an opportunity for our media team to do some exciting things for the final, which they deserve for all their fantastic work.
We, as a club, pride ourselves on the platform we give students to express themselves and gain experience for future life. It isn't seen around these leagues, and we are delighted to have them, and they're a massive part of our club and do a brilliant job!"
With the final date TBC, Central will have to wait to pencil in the date that's on everyone's mind.
