Chris Tomkinsons' side put in arguably their best performance of the season in a game where goals were being scored from the second minute to the last, including three from Kasali, three from Lawal and a phenomenal six from Wiwoloku.

Team news

Chris Tomkinson made three changes to the side which suffered a disappointing 4-1 cup defeat to Altrincham Hale last Saturday:

  • Rory Robertson comes back in at right wing-back for the unavailable Djankpata.

  • Dennis Jerome returned from injury to replace Zak Bell in midfield.

  • Asqari also returned to the side in place of Adebayo Adekoya.

Line-up:

Daniel Whiting, Rory Robertson, Michael Taiwo (Jordan Greer, 60'), Christopher Wilson (Zak Bell, 60'), Elliot Regan (C), Daniel Dolan, Kaine Martin, Dennis Jerome (Kieran Taylor, 35'), Fuhad Kasali (Ruben Lawal, 60'), Gabriel Wiwoloku, Aria Asqari (Mouchine Tefahi, 60')

Match report

The Gaffer opted for the same 523 formation, which has worked so well all season, involving wing-backs which push high up and almost act as an extra attacker in the final 3rd.

The decision to reinstate Rory Robertson into the starting 11 paid off after just 4 minutes when the wing-back opened the scoring with a well-dispatched header just outside the 6-yard box.

Despite a rather solid following 10 minutes from Caveliers, the floodgates opened after Kasali made it 2-0 with a well-taken finish, as we often say about Centrals top scorer. Just minutes later, it was Wiwoloku who added his name to the score sheet with another composed finish, following a lovely passing sequence from the home side.

Then just 3 minutes later, Wiwoloku grabbed his second of the game, thanks to an outstanding ball through the middle from Jerome. Nevertheless, the finish had to be good from the man upfront, and it was. Five minutes later, it was 5 for the home side.

Kasali made a great run down the right-hand side before cutting it back to Asqari inside the box, blasting the ball into the side, netting well beyond the keeper's reach. Furthermore, Centrals final goal of the half was the easiest goal Kasali will ever score. Wilson decided to go for goal from the halfway line; unfortunately for him, the ball bounced off the top of the bar and fell to Kasali's feet to tap in from two yards out.

If the first half sounded busy, then the second half was 5 pm at Piccadilly station. Central made no mistake in starting the second half as they meant to go on with four goals inside the first 10 minutes. The first came from the spot following a crunching foul on Kasali inside the box. Generously, Dolling gave the ball to Wiwoloku so that the striker could wrap up his hattrick, and he did so with a pass into the bottom corner despite the Gaffer's shouts to 'smash it'.

The following 7 minutes showed how hungry Central strikers were despite the 7-goal lead. With each of them adding to the scoreline, the first of which was an unsavable strike from Asqari as he cut it from the left-hand side before smashing the ball across the keeper into the top right. Next up, it was Kasali's turn to get a hattrick, picking up the ball outside the box before dribbling past a couple of lost-looking defenders and slotting the ball into the bottom corner for 9-0. Likewise, Wiwoloku followed suit with yet another composed finish just 2 minutes later.

Following on from the goal-fest, Cavaliers got themselves 7 minutes in which they didn't concede. Then, Wiwoloku decided to add himself a 5th of the game, which yet again was a composed finish inside the box, just as they had all been.

After 11 goals by the 62nd minute, Chris Tomkinson decided it was time to make a quadruple substitution to freshen things up and preserve fitness for the final two games. And just 5 minutes later, the impact of the subs paid off. Toufahi picked up the ball at the halfway line before beating a couple of men with some great footwork and threading a perfect ball through the middle for Martin, who approached the 6-yard box and passed the ball into the bottom right. Then if five wasn't enough for Wiwoloku, hopefully, six is. He claimed the double hattrick with another finish which was as composed as the previous 5; he looked like a man playing with bags of confidence.

The final 10 minutes were the Lawal show. Initially, his entrance was followed with a couple of missed chances and frustration. However, he didn't get his head down and wanted to make sure he wasn't the only striker goalless. Instead, he left Asqari as the only striker hat trickless. The first was buried into the bottom corner from inside the box, but the following two were even better. His second started on the left-hand side before he cut onto his right and smashed the ball into the side netting, leaving the keeper again rooted. However, his 3rd was the goal of the game; Wiwoloku played Lawal in behind, who then dummied the keeper with a fake shot, took it around him and wrapped up his hat trick in style.

The outstanding performance from every Central player on the pitch puts them into 5th place with two massive games left to play, with the top 5 granting Central automatic promotion.

Man of the Match: Gabriel Wiwoloku

Chris Tomkinson Post-Match interview

"It was a really good team performance, which is what I asked the lads to be before the game. We asked them to do a few little things that were a bit different from what we normally do, playing the quick and into feet 5-yard passes, which we need to get better at. We were really good at today, especially in the second half, finding players' feet on the half-turn and slipping people in.

Hopefully, the performance has given the lads a lot of confidence; it should do. Especially the strikers, each one of them scored at least two, which was great and gives them a real confidence boost, especially those that maybe haven't been on the score sheet for a while or not played as much as they'd probably like to, so I can't fault any of them they were all fantastic.

Standout performances, you'd probably have to say the strikers, scoring and obviously being ruthless, some of the finishes were fantastic. But the team performance was fantastic. Every single one of the lads was brilliant; they did their jobs a lot better than their opposition, and they were tremendous.

Big game Saturday against Daisy Hill, which will be a tough game away from home, but something that we want to make sure we win and keep the good run up and end up with a final game of the season, which will be a tough one against Avro. So, it's still all to play for; get 6 points in the final two games, and who knows where we'll end up, they need to keep going, but I can't fault the lads again. They were absolutely tremendous from back to front."
