Central look ahead to Pre-Season 2022/23

As the dust settles on Central's Manchester Football League season, Chris Tomkinson’s Manchester Central side are already looking ahead to their preparations for the 2022/23 campaign.

With a repeat of the 2018 Murray Trophy final already confirmed for Pre-Season as Central take on Tintwistle on Saturday July 24th, Tomkinson is determined to give his team the best possible chance to make a quick start to the season, no matter what league they are in.

“The Tintwistle game will be a good one to see where we are ahead of the new season. They’re a well established Division One team and the kind of side that we want to be challenging.”

After a nail biting final game of the season, where Central secured promotion to Division One, thanks to a 94th minute winner from Kasali. Chris Tomkinson is already looking to prepare for life in Division One.

“A quick start is going to be a key part of having a successful season and that all starts with a successful pre-season schedule.

“We’ve got a talented and determined group of players but if it takes them three or four games to hit the ground and we haven’t given the opportunity to blow those cobwebs off then we’re not going to be in a position to be challenging at the top.”

With the schedule beginning to take shape, Tomkinson is looking to really challenge his team with some high intensity friendlies to find out just what his squad are made of going into their second season together.

“There’s no point in playing games that aren’t going to be competitive. You learn nothing from winning or losing 10 or 15-0. We want to give the players a challenge and a chance to get back to match fitness whilst encouraging them to play to a level higher than what they have been.

“It’s been a great year but it’s important that we don’t get idle and that starts with a strong, determined approach to pre-season.”
