Chris Tomkinson’s side face Avro Reserves at the Vestacare Stadium on Saturday as Central look to continue their stellar start to the campaign, topping the Manchester Football League Division One table after taking the full nine points in their opening three games. This weekend, Central travel to face fellow promoted side Avro Reserves. The two sides last met on Central’s last game of the 2021/22 season in a tightly contested game, which saw Fuad Kasali convert for Central in the last minute to win 4-3 and hand the home side a promotion place. Avro would secure a place in Division one on their last game of the season, finishing just two points behind Tomkinson’s men. This result was a carbon copy of the reverse fixture earlier in the 2021/22 season, which saw Central narrowly emerge victorious from the Vestacare Stadium in another seven-goal thriller. Central have seen a strong start to the season, dismantling Division Two’s Runners-Up Bolton Borough 2-1 on the opening day, before dispatching established Division One sides Wilmslow Albion and Eton Vale by 3-2 and 3-1, respectively. Tomkinson will be hoping that his side can maintain the momentum against a tough Avro team. Despite currently sitting bottom of the table and yet to score after a 3-0 loss to Avenue, who finished above Central due to goal difference yesteryear, and a narrow 1-0 loss to Altrincham Hale, who bettered Central in last year’s Murray Trophy, Avro have previously proven their ability to Tomkinson; “We know that it will be a tough game against Avro having had two tight battles with them last season. I’m not taking their start to the season into account as we know they are a decent side, so we are expecting another competitive game.”

“I won’t read too much into their first two games as it is early in the season and Avro may have had players missing, et cetera, so we must go off what we know from last season and make sure that we do what we are good at.

I want Central to work hard and make it difficult for them, hopefully coming away with the three points.”

“Unfortunately, we do have a few players missing tis week, including last week’s goal-scorer Junior Silva due to injury, as is Ruben Abreu. Aria Asqari is also unavailable for the fixture.

However, we still have a squad of twenty very good players to choose from, with instances like this showing how important squad depth is. I’m very much looking forward to the game.”
