With the 2023/24 season starting on the horizon, Manchester Central captain Dan Dolling spells out his thoughts and expectations from the season ahead.

Dan, we've seen a number of changes to the playing staff over the summer period. Can you give some insight on your thoughts on this? How is the dressing room faring?

"Personally. I believe that the new additions are just what we needed going into the 2023/24 season. Unfortunately, things just weren't clicking for the team towards the end of the previous campaign. A few of the new players have certainly already caught my eye, I can tell that they are team players who want to help the side to succeed this season.

Additionally, giving opportunities for fresh faces to impress has helped the team tremendously. It has allowed the whole squad to reset, creating a much more positive environment at both training and match days. I'm sure that will make the difference over the course of the season."

The squad overhaul has given Dan confidence for the season ahead.

From the sidelines, Central have had a positive pre-season. As team captain, do you agree with this sentiment?

"Pre-season has been brilliant this year. We have tried out new playing styles and even afforded opportunities to experienced players in new positions to see what we could switch up for the season, namely Ruben Lawal's recent revelation as a centre-back! Personally, I think Chris and Paul have nailed it. Pre-season couldn't have been executed much better. As the results show, we have the perfect balance of youth and experience as everyone appears to be on the same wavelength, with the results showing that we are doing something right."

Despite a flurry of new signings who have impressed Dan, long-time Central player Ruben Lawal is one of the captain's stand-out players from pre-season.

I'm glad to hear that you agree! What can the team do to ensure that Central start the season in the right way against Avenue FC?

"For me, it's all about attitude. For starters, the lads need to turn up on time with their heads fully focused on the task ahead. We know that Avenue are no push-overs, so we will have to bring our A-game to ensure that we kick the season off with the full three points."

Dan is hoping that Central will surpass his expectations this season.

Finally, Dan, you have been with us for a few seasons now so know what to expect. That said, what are your ambitions for the campaign on both a personal and team level?

"On a personal level, I would love to earn more clean sheets. Defensive consistency is key, and I'm sure that the rest of the back-line would agree. I'm sure that we are capable of achieving this, and I think it would help us to reach our goals as a whole. From the perspective of the entire team, I think that we have to be looking to push for promotion. Definitely. Also, we have to make sure that we have a good cup run as well, it would be nice to bring some silverware to Manchester Central this season!"
